Rebels fall 3-1 to Lethbridge in preseason play

LETHBRIDGE — The Red Deer Rebels got a second-period goal from Blake Gustafson in a 3-1 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in WHL preseason play Friday at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge.

The ‘Canes got a first-period goal from Logan Wornald and two-period tallies off the sticks of Miguel Marques and Jett Jones.

Rebels netminder Rhett Stoesser made 17 saves while Jared Piclyk turned aside 29 shots for the Hurricanes in a first star performance.

The Rebels were zero-for-two on the power play and the Hurricanes were zero-for-four. Red Deer outshot Lethbridge on the night by a 30-20 margin.

The teams meet again Saturday at the Peavey Mart Centrium at 7 p.m. in the final preseason tilt for both squads.
